The CoVE has a clear management structure that involves the four training providers, other key partners such as Care Focus, and Employers.  It is vital that employers have the opportunity to inform and steer the development work the CoVE will undertake.

The development working groups are:

1. Promotion & dissemination

Focusing in on widening participation and information / guidance needed by Care staff and Employers.

2. Curriculum innovation

Focusing on e-learning, blended learning, effective resources to meet the individuals needs.

3. Quality Improvements

Focusing on national targets to increase staff qualified, specific improvements such as a care focused initial assessment tool and success rates.

Priority Areas for CoVE Support

Research undertaken has identified some priority groups to receive targeted support and to widen participation for workers and training in the care sector, these are:


  • Care settings in rural areas
  • Males entering the care sector

  • Part-time female workers in the middle/older age range

  • Eastern European workers

  • Employers with less than ten workers

  • Young workers entering the sector

  • Returners to the workplace

Portable el-box

Integrating  Microsoft's  latest  tablet  PC  software  with Health Care courses embeded in an interactive learning environment,  the el-box™ offers a state-of-the-art experience, which is easy to use and highly intuitive.  The  el-box™  uses  the  most  up-to-date  hardware  and  software available to provide an inexpensive and convenient way to make e-learning even more accessible to staff members.


The el-box™, which is like an A4-sized Palm-Pilot or PDA, comes pre-loaded with a choice of e-learning programmes, so users can simply turn it on and start learning using the in-built digitised pen.


Not only does the el-box™ remove many logistical barriers to learning by making it available anywhere anytime, it also allows learners without basic IT skills to learn on a fun, user-friendly platform.

To give the reader an idea of the course contents two examples of short courses are shown below:

Care Induction Standards

Care Induction Standards is a new e-learning course that delivers the training required under the new Common Induction Standards (CIS). It is aimed at all new adult social care workers in a residential, domiciliary or specialist area environment. The course also serves as an introduction to the Level 2 NVQ in Health & Social Care.

 

Benefits for managers and care providers

  • Meets the new CIS from Skills for Care

  • Delivers induction training cost effectively and to a consistent standard

  • Provides comprehensive automated training records

  • Reduces the need for Managers to fully mentor and assess inductees

  • Encourages staff retention

Features of Care Induction Standards

Care Induction Standards is divided into 7 modules, covering the 6 CIS and an extra module on Emergency First Aid.



Course duration is 5-8hrs and requires no prior knowledge of the care sector or of IT skills.

Protection of Vulnerable Adults (POVA)

POVA is an induction level course for all new staff in care homes, equivalent to a half-day classroom-based course. It provides training for staff working with vulnerable adults, covering topics such as types of abuse, recognising and reporting abuse, roles and responsibilities, supporting vulnerable adults, legislation and the POVA list. The course's content has been mapped to the learning outcomes of the 'Safeguarding Vulnerable Adults' Knowledge Set,issued by Skills for Care. The course therefore provides underpinning knowledge for the Level 2 NVQ in Health and Social Care.

POVA is divided into 3 modules. Course duration is ca. 1.5-3hrs and requires no prior knowledge of the care sector or of IT skills.
