About Apprenticeships
Do you want to find a job with training, or to be trained for a job?
If your answer is YES then an Apprenticeship programme is for you. The College offers a wide variety of programmes in many different occupations at Apprenticeship and Advanced Apprenticeship levels (NVQ 2 and NVQ 3)
Are you unemployed and seeking work?
If you have been unemployed for 6 months or more you are probably eligible for our New Deal or Work Based Learning for Adults programme. We can help you improve your prospects to get back into paid work by updating your existing skills or offering you new training.
Are you recruiting or want
to train existing staff?
Helping a young person on to a career ladder through an
Apprenticeship will not only give him or her a qualification directly related to
your business but will benefit your company by making your organisation more
effective and productive.
What is an
Apprenticeship?
The Apprenticeship programme takes a
very practical approach to gaining skills and qualifications and leads to an NVQ
(National Vocational Qualification) at level 2. You can achieve even higher
skill levels up to NVQ level 3 with an Advanced Apprenticeship.
Work based learning with an employer (or work placement provider) forms a major part of both Apprenticeship programmes, supported by relevant College based training in the form of day release. Apprenticeship programmes include training in a range of key skills including Communication, Application of Number and Information Technology. Theory based Technical Certificates are included within the Apprenticeship Framework.
We use the latest technology methods and, where appropriate, provide you with practical experience in specialised areas. You will receive individual guidance and support to ensure you gain the maximum achievement from your programme.
When can I join a College
Apprenticeship Training programme?
As soon as you leave school but you can apply earlier to
make sure of your place. If you are already in a job, or you have a job to go to
when you leave school or college and you want to carry on training, ask your
employer to find out more about Apprenticeship programmes arranged through the
Bournemouth and Poole College. You'll have full apprenticeship status and still
be an employee of the company being paid a real wage.
How much time do I spend at
College?
Training at College usually consists of one day a week
with the rest of your week at your work placement although some vocational areas
differ. A Programme-led Apprenticeship such as e-skills4industry and
skills4industry-retail will incorporate a block of training at college followed
by several months at a work placement.
What will I do at
College?
Your Apprenticeship will
include Key Skills linked to your chosen profession and achievement of Technical
Certificates.
Why should I choose the
College?
Is there anywhere else
that can offer you the excellent facilities of the learning resource centre with
access to a full suite of library, video, IT and audio facilities, bookshop,
cafeterias and student activities? Tutors and support staff who take a personal
interest in your progress, are available to help you. You'll have all the
advantages of being a student of The College but you'll also be earning a wage
or allowance.
How much will I
earn?
Everyone on an Apprenticeship
is paid a minimum of £70 per week but you will probably earn more if you're
employed.
I'm
not sure what I want to do or if I can do it ….
Don't worry, if you feel you lack the basic skills or
confidence you need to get the job you want, our Entry to Employment (E2E)
programme may help you. You can work towards a qualification, get some training
in a secure environment at the same time and be paid an allowance.
